New Projects & Updates for the Week of July 17th
Kaleidoscope's First Look
Hello VR Creators & Industry Leaders,
As we reach the midpoint of summer, we are excited to launch four captivating new projects on Kaleidoscope: Rose Colored, The Tale of the Tiny Fisherman, Dialogue Earth, and The Visigoths. These four experiences span the gamut of VR content, yet each are incredibly captivating and engrossing in their own unique ways. Above all, these experiences focus on – and succeed at – telling a story, and we’re thrilled to bring them your way.

TALE OF THE TINY FISHERMAN
Created by Balthazar Auxietre, Alexis Moroz, & Hayoun Kwon
Welcome to a land of color and enchantments, where your wildest dreams are right outside – as long as you can solve the puzzle of how to get out there.
In The Tale of the Tiny Fisherman, the latest VR piece from standout creative minds Balthazar Auxietre, Alexis Moroz, and Hayoun Kwon, you are Bob, a tiny puppet of a fisherman. You live alone in your little wooden cabin, living a very organized and repetitive life, isolated from the world outside – and you are content. But one strange night, you dream of the ocean, that wide blue expanse, sparkling in the sun, that you once called your home... how long has it been since you last saw it? Maybe it's time you pry open those window shutters, crusted over with rust. Outside, though, is a world nothing like what you expected or remembered...
Project funded by the French CNC and ARTE. Platform-specific exclusivity rights still available.

Created by Adam Cosco in collaboration with Invar Studios
In a near-future society, those who control technology have the power to shape the world – or to destroy it. It is in this world that young couple Ben and Victoria are caught in a struggle between two warring factions with diametric views of the world. This is Rose Colored, the pilot episode for an anthology VR series about emerging technologies and their impact on our lives.
In Rose Colored, veteran VR creator Adam Cosco and Invar Studios dare to ask the question: What if we actually believed we were empowered to make good choices about how technology is used in our world? The result is a project that lives at the opposite end of the spectrum from our media's default setting of nihilistic glamorization of the double-edged sword that is technological progress. Rose Colored is unswerving in its gaze at hard realities, and at the same time unapologetically optimistic in its depiction of what possibilities may lie just beyond the horizon.

What, exactly, does it take to make incredible works of art? And is inspiration drawn from within, or without?
Dialogue Earth, brought to us from producer Hank Levine of the Academy Award-winning feature film City of God, lets you find out – and quite intimately so. Join renowned "earth artist" Ulrike Arnold in a meditative virtual experience as she creates her paintings in mind-blowing desert settings. The user begins at a virtual gallery consisting of six of the artist's paintings, whereupon he or she is able to interact and discover the artistic processes behind each one of them. Presented through different styles, from timelapse to bird-eye-view, each painting offers a unique experience to observe Ulrike's immersive artistic process and connect with the surroundings that inspire her. Accompanied by narration, the experience is designed to catalyze one's connection to desert environments and reveal how nature can be transformed into art.
SEEKING: $185K for Production. Deck available for members.
Created by Rory Mitchell, Martha Marion, & Josh Polon
Rory Mitchell, Martha Marion, and Josh Polon put us mere feet away from an intense romantic drama in this live action 360 short film. The Visigoths places you adjacent to two young lovers, and all the fortune and folly that their relationship entails. The film is a powerfully intimate experience of the fragility and hope of new love, bringing you onto the island that two lovers create for themselves, where only they can go – because only they know the way. Their love will never fall.

OUT OF THE BLUE
Sophie Ansel's wondrous live action 360 documentary made waves in the VR world and off the coast of Greece this past week, winning Athen's LifeArt Media Festival's "Virtual Reality Award." Out of the Blue explores the rich legacy inherited by 8 year old Yerick, a child amongst a community of fishermen in Cabo Pulmo who became inadvertent conservationists when faced with the depletion of their marine resources.
We are ecstatic to report that Carlos Ulloa and Libertad Aguilera's brilliant VR music experience (we cannot really call it a "music video" anymore, now, can we?) has been selected by Siggraph Animation Festival among some other very cool projects to be shown at the festival's VR Theater. If you find yourself in Los Angeles in late July or early August, the showcase is certainly worth checking out.
A crowd favorite at this year's Tribeca Film Festival, APEX is the brainchild of 3D artist and musician Arjan van Meerten and his VR studio House of Secrets. Discover Arjan's unique creative process in a newly released behind-the-scenes documentary. Night Terrors, Arjan van Meerten & The Making of Apex shows the tremendous amount of thought and effort it takes to create skeletal ghost animals and maniacal smiling giants.
