STORM RIDERS is an immersive documentary shot in East London during the 2017 UK terror attacks. The film illuminates this dark chapter through the intimate experiences of two Muslim skate boarders - Chadnee and Farhana - two women of faith caught up in the cultural cross fire.
Attacked for how they dress by the ignorant and shunned by their own community for skateboarding, this powerful and ultimately uplifting film follows their journey as they skate through the ‘storm’, grinding down racial stereotypes with their surprising candor, personal insight and charmingly infectious goofiness.
The film’s narrative arc charts their unlikely collaboration with acclaimed video artist and ex-pro skater Shaun Gladwell as they travel to Sydney, Australia to remake his seminal artwork – Storm Sequence - part of the MOMA permanent collection. As they create the work they ride through concepts of freedom, faith, and feminism and delve further into the world of skateboarding, Islam and artistic expression.
