Jess Engel is the Director of Original Content at Within, a VR company founded by the filmmaker Chris Milk and the data artist Aaron Koblin to define VR as a new medium for experiential storytelling. She is currently developing an array of pioneering VR experiences with top creators across music, film, animation, and interactive. Her previous projects include VR experiences “Fistful of Stars” and “Giant”. Prior to her work in VR, she was the Creative Executive at Electric City Entertainment, a film production company in Los Angeles. There she worked on critically acclaimed films such as Captain Fantastic, and The Place Beyond The Pines. Jess joins the Within team following a stint as the Executive Producer at Virtualize, a VR content agency based in NYC.
While at Virtualize, Jess produced both branded and original VR content for leading industry clients. Her recent projects include ‘Giant‘ — which debuted at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival and Cannes Film Festival — and ‘Fistful of Stars’, a multimedia VR space opera experience about the Hubble Telescope, premiering on August 6th at BRIC! Celebrate Brooklyn Festival. Previously, Jess was the Creative Executive at Electric City Entertainment in Los Angeles. While at Electric City, she worked on a number of critically acclaimed films, including Matt Ross’s ‘Captain Fantastic’ and Derek Cianfrance’s ‘The Place Beyond the Pines.' Jess was a 2016 Sundance New Frontier Fellow.
